Microsoft retreats from scheme to change Chrome's search engine - ARN

Personally, I find it amusing that this late in the game, people are finally seeing the need for Microsoft to compete with Chrome OS - as opposed to the other way around. I’ve been among the few voices in the wilderness for years, telling people just how much of a game-changer Chromebooks were. Chromebook proponents have largely been ignored, even laughed at.
Finally, people are starting to wake up.
Of course, Microsoft saw the threat all along - but so far they’ve been helpless to respond effectively. Windows 10S was a dumpster fire. Outlook dot com (built to compete directly with Gmail) is still relatively unknown. OneDrive is rather pitiful when compared to Google Drive - and I could go on in this vein for a long time.
Frankly, anything Microsoft does at this point is too little, and years too late. I fully expect Google to go right on taking more and more market share, slowly perhaps, but damn near inevitably.
Google plays the long game. I mean seriously people… When Google started giving G Suite to schools for free, I knew the world had changed. Think about it!!! Think about WHY Google did that!
And in case that wasn’t clear enough…

You see… Chrome OS and Chromebooks are just small pieces of a very large picture, one Google has been building for a long time. To truly compete with Chrome OS, Microsoft would have to build Google’s entire ecosystem.
And quite simply… they can’t do that.
